Death of Mrs. Charles Stearns

In the death of Mrs. Charles Stearns of Grant Township, another of the early settlers of the county has passed away. She and her husband have lived on the farm where she died for more than forty years.

She was a splendid woman in every way; the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Doyle, of honored and cherished memory.

The interment was made Sunday evening in the Doyle graveyard, one of the very first in the county on her father's homestead.

Rev. W.O. Tompkins was to have conducted the funeral services, but the rain prevented him getting there, and Rev. Andrew of this place was called and drove in the rain down to the home and held the service after six o'clock, returning home at nine.

Obituary

Josephine Doyle was born April 22, 1857. Was united in marriage to Chas. L. Stearns on April 5, 1874, and to this union five children were born: Will H. of Grant township; Irene L. Upton of Milford; Alfred C. of Edmore, North Dakota; Maranda C. who died when six months of age; Jessie Pearl Wilson of Omega Township.

Mrs. Stearns died April 24, 1914, and was fifty-seven years and 2 days old. She had been a constant sufferer from diabetes for eleven years, passing through the different stages of the disease and losing her eyesight four years ago. During these years she followed closely with her Lord, passing lonely wakeful nights and days repeating verses from the Bible, and singing hymns, the 23rd Psalm being her favorite Scripture and "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Rock of Ages" her favorite songs.
