Joe Ney, age 91 of Sheldon,Iowa passed away on Monday June 25, 2007 at the Sandford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon,Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday June 29,2007 at St. Partick's Catholic Church in Sheldon with Father Robert J. Schimmer the celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00pm on Thursday at the church. The family will recieve friends from 6:00-8:00pm and a Vigil service will begin at 7:00 pm.

Joe was born in Granville, Iowa on March 30, 1916 the son of John & Mary(Klein) Ney. He grew up in the Granville area, and attended St. Joseph's School.

He was united in marriage with Armella Poncelet on May 19,1941 in Granville, the couple spent a year in Granville before making their home in Sheldon.

Joe was a dairy farmer and farmed his land until he retired in 1986.

Upon his retirement, he worked at McGillick's assembling farm equipment, he also assisted his son Mike on a farm south of Sheldon until 2005.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheldon, where he faithfully served as an usher for several years, he also attended Mass every day.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Armella, of Sheldon, his children Ted Ney(Bonnie) of Parma, Idaho, JoAnn DenBeste (Daryl) of Sheldon, Janice Berndt(Herb)of Davenport,Iowa,Pauline Ney of Buffalo, Wyoming, Bill Ney(Marie) of Yelm, Washington, Gene Ney (Laura) of Ashton,Iowa, Sharon Shassetz(Bob) of Sterling, Alaska, and Mike Ney(Jackie) of Matlock, Iowa. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Joe also is survived by brothers Lawrene of Sheldon, Tony of Granville, and Jack of Granville, sisters Marie Meinen of Ashton, Rosalia Koob of Granville, Frances Koob of Granville, Colleen Penning of Granville, and a sister-in-law Kathryn Ney of Orange City,Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Ruth Strouth, son-in-law Marvin Strouth, an infant brother Robert, an infant sister Elizabeth and a grandson Tommy Ney.
