Julius Brehmer (1882-1958)

Julius Brehmer, son of John and Marie Brehmer, was born at Plainview, Iowa on. January 20th, 1882. He came to O'Brien county with his parents in 1899 and the family farmed in the Hartley vicinity many years. Mr. Brehmer started buying livestock at an early age and continued in that business until shortly before his death.

In 1943 he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church.

On April 8th he underwent surgery at the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City and appeared to be recovering satisfactorily. However, on Thursday afternoon, May 22, he suffered a fatal heart attack. He had reached the age of 76 years, 4 months and 2 days.

He is survived by his wife, the former Laura Strampe of Paullina; 2 daughters, Betty (Mrs. Cloy Hirt) of Hartley and Marlene (Mrs. Robert Kroger) of Sioux City; 3 granddaughters, Jennene and Jeri Ann Hirt and Lori Kroger; 2 brothers, Emil and John of Hartley; 1 sister, Mrs. Meta Bertram, also of Hartley, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Four years ago he suffered the loss of his only son, Bill, and a baby granddaughter. His parents and 7 brothers and sisters also preceded him: in death.

Services were held from St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, May 25, with the Rev. A. O. Bleeke officiating. A quartette composed of Mrs. Franklin Newel, Mrs. Ben Henning, Lester Peters and Herbert Weber sang "God Loved the World", "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Abide With Me."

Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery. Pallbearers were F. A. Albright, Will Hesse, L W. Wagner, Al Matthiesen, Chris Wichman and A. F. Hansen.
