Henry John Puhrmann, the son of John and Minnie Mertens Puhrmann, was born Dec. 6, 1889, at Paullina, in O'Brien County, Iowa. He passed away at the Hartley Hospital on Oct. 8, 1966, after a long illness. He had reached the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 2 days.

Most of his life was spent in the Paullina community, and it was there that he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, at St. John's church, in Germantown. He attended the parochial school there, and also attended public High School in Paullina.

His marriage to Clara Egdorf took place on Dec. 15, 1911 at the home of her parents at Paullina. To them were born six children. The family lived at Hartley for six years, and for the past 31 years had resided in Sutherland. He had farmed most of his lifetime, but for several years had lived in town.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two daughters, Marlys and Dorothy, who died in infancy, two sisters: Mrs. Bernard Boysen and Mrs. Fred Warnke, and one brother, John.

Surviving are his wife, Clara, of Sutherland, one son, Earl of Eden Valley, Minn., three daughters Haze! (Mrs. Gaylord Riedemann) of Primghar, Esther (Mrs. Harley Feldotto) of Paullina, and Grace (Mrs. Leonard Ewoldt) of Hartley, two sisters, Mrs. William Appeldorn of Paullina, Mrs. Walter Miller of Marcus, one brother, Arthur of Paullina, 11 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Last rites were held at Bethel Lutheran church in Sutherland on October 10 with Rev. Fred A. Elze officiating.

Pallbearers were Daniel Miller, Elmer Puhrmann, Harold Puhrmann, Roy Warnke, Gus Appeldorn and Walter Egdorf. Interment was in Prairie View cemetery at Paullina with the Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
