Mrs. Katharina "Tina" Kock Puhrmann

The burial service for Mrs. J. H. Puhrmann was conducted on Thursday, July 2nd, 1942 from the home in the northwest part of the city and from Zion Lutheran Church. As Pastor of the Zion Congregation during the vacancy the Rev. W. H. Jurgens of Germantown was in charge.

The church service was enhanced by the singing of two Chorales by a mixed quartet of the congregation as well as by the singing of two Chorales by the entire assembly. The funeral sermon was based on Matthew 17, 8 enlarging and applying the thought "See Jesus only!" The sermon was preached in both English and German.

The body was laid to rest in the Paullina Cemetery, where it now awaits the resurrection to eternal life, promised all who believe in Jesus as their Savior It was borne to the grave by Messrs. Herman Hibbing, Herman Ploen. Otto Koch, Carl Westphal. Dick Smits, and Ina Dornbusch, Sr.

The deceased was born on January 29, 1884, In Schleswig, Germany the daughter of Mr. Hans Koch and his wife, Kathryn. At her Baptism in early infancy, she was given the names Katherine Margaret. When about 16 weeks of age she came to America with her parents settling in Tama County near Garvin, Iowa.

On April 11, 1897, the deceased confirmed the vow she made thru her sponsors at her Baptism to remain loyal to the Triune God that being the day of her Confirmation by the sainted Pastor Jacob Horn of St. John Church. The family had moved to this community in 1888 and had become members of St. John Church.

Here she also became the wife of Mr. John Puhrmann on May 29, 1904, the ceremony being performed by the sainted Pastor Oscar Horn. This union the Lord blessed with four children. In October 1933, the deceased moved to Paullina to make her home and affiliated with Zion Lutheran Church.

Shortly after Easter she became ill, she was taken to various hospitals, but all that medical skill and loving care could do was unavailing. The Lord of life and death was calling His child home. On Monday morning, June 29th, she fell asleep in Jesus, as we confidently believe and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. She reached an age of 58 years and 5 months.

During her last Illness, especially in the last weeks, she was happy to receive the ministrations of God's Word brought her dally by her Pastor She disavowed any merit of her own: her hope and comfort and glory was the cleansing blood of Jesus, the Savior Who dieth thus, dies well.

Her departure is mourned by her, husband three sons. Harry. Elmer, and Melvin; one daughter, Velma, (Mrs. John Smidt); nine grandchildren, one brother, Mr. John Koch, one sister Mrs. Anna Kluender; two aunts, Mrs. Anna Mumm, resident here, and Mrs. Margaret Block, of Portland, Oregon.
