Death Claims Wm. Pauling, Sr.
Passed Away Tuesday Afternoon at about 1:30 O'clock

Wilhelm Pauling, Sr., who has been seriously ill for some time, passed away at his home in Caledonia township Tuesday, January 11th, at about 1:30 o'clock.

He is survived by his widow and several children. Deceased was born in Germany March 10, 1862, and was 75 years, and 10 months of age.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 o'clcok from the home and at 1:30 p.m. at the St. John's Lutheran church at Germantown. Mr. Pauling has been actively engaged in farming for many years. An obituary will be printed next week.

Obituary of Wm. Pauling, Sr.

A substantial citizen and beloved member of the Germantown community passed away Wm. Pauling, Sr., was born at Cooper's Grove, Cook County, Illinois; March 19, 1862. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of the place of his birth. At the age of nineteen he came to Caledonia Township and lived there the remainder of his life. His marriage to Miss Catherine Lindemann took place at Germantown May 14, 1893.

Three sons, Wm. F., Alfred and Ehlon survive the father and also three daughters, Claudina, Mrs. Emil Hoermann, Irene, Mrs. Ed Beermann and Lavinia, Mrs. John Stamer. There are 17 grandchildren. Besides his immediate family Mr. Pauling leaves to mourn his departure two brothers, Fred Pauling and Ed Pauling, and one sister Mrs. Louise Beermann.

After a lingering illness of several years he passed away peacefully on January 11 1938, at the age of 75 years, 10 months and one day. Interment was made at the Germantown cemetery on Friday, January 14th. A German and an English funeral sermon was preached for him by the Rev J. Hartmeister of Paullina, who also gave him Holy Communion the day before his death.
