Funeral services for Marie Martin were held at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland, Iowa, on Friday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Gordon Elrick officiated. The casket bearers were Steve Carnahan, Mike Ewoldt, Dan Slamer, Larry Carnahan, Jim Ewoldt and Todd Rohwer. The committal service was held at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland, Iowa.

Marie Martin, the daughter of Arthur and Minnie Johannsen Innes, was born August 26, 1905, at Sutherland, Iowa. She graduated from Sutherland High School in 1923.

She was united in marriage to Lee Gerald Martin on August 10, 1927. Marie lived in Sutherland all her life, with the exception of three years when the family moved to Tacoma, Washington, where she worked in a defense plant during World War II. She was a traveling sales lady for Minnesota Woolens and Watkins for 30 years retiring in 1978.

She was baptized in the United Methodist Church and was a friend of the church. She was a member of East Side Circle and Senior Citizens. She passed away at Sutherland on December 3, 1990, at the age of 85.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1981, three sisters, Lucille, Nettie and an infant sister, one brother, Harry and one daughter, Norma in 1990.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters and their husbands, Marjorie and Francis Carnahan of Sutherland, Iowa, Myrna and Wayne Ewoldt of Bentonville, Arkansas; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one brother, Perry Innes of Wichita, Kansas; along with many other relatives and friends.
