Swen Johann Hultgren was born at Hvena, Bloxhult in Sweden on March 4, 1852, and passed away at Primghar, Iowa, May 14, 1942, at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 20 days.

He was the son of Nels Peter and Anna Longren Hultgren, with one brother and three sisters, all of whom preceded him in death.

Mr. Hultgren was educated in the church school and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, in which church he remained a member.

He came to America in 1879 and lived in O'Brien county since 1885. Mr. Hultgren never married, but lived with and cared for a younger brother for more than fifty years in Paullina.

His closest living relatives are the children of his sister, Mrs. Hans Mattson. They are Charles J. Mattson of Washington, D.C., Albert Mattson of Sanborn, Iowa, Harry Mattson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, George Mattson and Mrs. C.L. Thomas of Pekin, Illinois, Mrs. Louis D. Larson, Eagle Grove, Iowa, and Mrs. E. B. Myers, H.E. Mattson and Mrs. Edward F. Saupe of Sheldon, Iowa.

A hard working man, he enjoyed his ability to share in labor even to an advanced age. His remarkable memory, his musical talents, and his willingness to give what he had gave happiness to others.

Funeral services were held from the Ed Saupe home and the Baker Methodist church on Sunday afternoon with Rev. Kenneth E. Metcalf in charge. Dorthy and LaVonne Harms sang two selections with Norma Joyce Saupe as pianist. Burial was at the Paullina cemetery with John Johnson, Victor Sands, Harry Johnson, C.O. Johnson, Jens Anderson and Frank Saupe as pall bearers.

Relatives from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Louis D. Larson of Eagle Grove, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry A. Mattson and son Billie Dean of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
