Marian Ruth Jalas, the daughter of Raymond and Emma (Hellmann) Fife, was born August 9, 1921 in Paullina, O'Brien County, Iowa.

She attended school in Paullina and graduated in 1938, and then attended N.B.T. in Sioux City, Iowa.

On December 19, 1939, she was united in marriage to Ralph Jalas in Sioux City, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple moved to Sutherland and farmed east of Sutherland. In 1960, they moved into Sutherland where they resided until Marian's dath.

Marian passed away on Monday, December 28, 1987, in Spencer, Iowa, reaching the age of 66 years, 4 months and 19 days.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sutherland as well as the United Methodist Women.

Left to cherish her memory are Marian's husband, Ralph of Sutherland; one son, Jerry and daughter-in-law, Caroline, of Sarasota, Florida; one daughter, Linda and son-in-law, Mike Rickert of Reinbeck, Iowa; five grandchildren, and one great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Leland (Eleanor) Miller of Paullina, Iowa; nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents.
