Jack Brums Killed In Pickup Accident On Thursday Evening

John T. Bruns 24 of Sioux Rapids was dead Thursday night, October 1 at the scene of a one vehicle crash 10 miles south of Spencer and a fourth of a mile east of the Rossie blacktop corner. The accident happened about 11 p.m.

The pickup truck Jack was driving apparently left the roadway, went into a ditch, then struck a farm driveway grade, according to Iowa highway patrolmen and sheriff's officers who investigated the accident. The truck caught fire and Mr. Bruns died as a result of the burns. Mr. Bruns, an employee of Mid America Pipeline Company, was returning from Garner, Iowa on company business when the accident occurred.

SERVICES HERE MONDAY

Funeral services for Mr. Bruns were held at the First Presbyterian church of Paullina on Monday, October 5 at 2 p.m. Officiating at the service were Rev. Robert Hickman, pastor of the church and Rev. Vern Willeys of Spencer. Pallbearers were Kenneth Hewitt and Harvey Henderson of Mid America Pipeline Co., Gary Arndt of Spencer, Ronald Waggoner of Sutherland, Dennis Bruns and Lyle Rabe of Paullina. Organist was Mrs. Arnold Lundbeck of Royal, and soloist was Dennis Koenig, also of Royal.

OBITUARY

John T. Bruns, son of Margaret and Clemence Bruns was born on October 13, 1945 at Paullina, Iowa. He was educated in the Paullina High School and graduated from the Paullina High School in 1963.

Following his education, he entered the service of his country and served in the United States Sea Bees in the Viet Nam conflict with Advanced Party of MCB 5. After a four-year period of time, he was honorably discharged from the Sea Bees.

Shortly after his discharge, he was employed by the Mid-America Pipeline Company. At the present time, he was serving as Terminal man of the Early, Iowa Division.

In July 1967, Mr. Bruns was united in marriage to Donna Lee Beedle. To this union, one son, Thomas, was born.

Survivors include his wife Donna, son Thomas, his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Bjork, one brother, Gordon Bruns, and a great host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clemence Bruns, and one brother. Gene Carl Bruns.

Burial was in Prairie View cemetery near Paullina with the Spencer VFW and the Russell West Legion Post of Paullina conducting the military graveside services.

He reached the age of 24 years, 11 months and 19 days.
