William Christopher "Chris" Fife (1863-1945)

William Christopher Fife passed away at one p. m. Wednesday, August 29, 1945, at the Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. He had been ill since June 27th, when he suffered a stroke and severe heart attack at his home.

Mr. Fife, born May 14, 1863. in Ontario, Canada, was the oldest of 10 children born to David and Elizabeth Dinsdale Fife. He moved to Traer, Iowa, with his parents, from Ontario, when he was a small boy and remained there until the family came to O'Brien county, and settled on the Fife homestead three and a half miles north of Paullina. In the fall of 1883, "Chris" as he was known by most of the pioneers in this neighborhood, and his father came to O'Brien county and bought their farms from the Railroad Company. He lived on the present Fife farm until 1919, when he and his wife retired from farming and moved to Paullina.

In 1890 he was united in marriage with Ophelia Philip from Tama county, who preceded him in death in 1930. To them were born one son. Raymond Fife of Paullina, two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Bonner of Jewell. Ia., and Emma Fife of Sterling, Illinois, all of whom survive him. Other survivors are four grandchildren, Marian Fife Jalas, Eleanor Jean Fife, Joan and Janet Bonner, two great-grandchildren, Jerry and Linda Jalas, his sisters, Mrs. Lillie Godfrey. Mrs. Fanny Partridge, Mrs. Ella Benson, and brothers, John and James Fife.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the home of Ray Fife with Rev. Frielie E. Conaway, officiating. Interment was made in the Prairie View cemetery.
