Funeral services for Doris M. Salzkorn were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2001, at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina, Iowa, with Rev. Leroy Riemer officiating. The casket bearers were Steve Lund, Heath Salzkorn, Mark Bradbury, Mike Lund, Dennis Salzkorn and Ryan Weaver. Interment was at Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

Doris Mae "Dode" Salzkorn, the daughter of Bert and Ada Smith Heckert, was born October 12, 1911, in Sutherland, Iowa. She received her education in Sutherland schools and graduated from Sutherland High School.

On October 4, 1934, she was united in marriage to Gaylord E. Salzkorn in Spencer, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived for a short time in Aurelia before making their home in Sutherland. For many years she did babysitting in her home for families from the Sutherland area.

Her husband preceded her in death on September 16, 1996, in Cherokee, Iowa. She remained in the family home until entering the Primghar Care Center on August 24, 2001. She passed away at the care center on Monday, September 3, 2001, reaching the age of 89 years, 10 months and 21 days.

She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland and had served on the Sutherland Commercial Club She enjoyed playing cards and crocheting.

Dons leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Dwain and his wife, Delores Salzkorn of Spencer, Iowa, and Blaine Salzkorn of Sutherland; seven grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren; and eight great-greatgrandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Helen Brownmiller of Logan, Iowa; also a host of other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Ray Lund, parents; a sister, Evah; twin brothers, C D "Bo" and Clark, and brother, Myrl.
