Albert L. Kane was born in Meadyille, Penn.,
March 3, 1849, and died at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. F.E. Fuller. Cedar Falls, Jan.
31,1930. When but a lad he moved from Pennsylvania to Green county, Wis., where he grew to manhood and again: following the
westward trend of civilization, came with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kane, to Iowa and O'Brien county, where both father and son homesteaded on adjoining tracts of land 3 miles
east of Primghar.
On Nov. 27, 1873, he was united marriage to Rosselle Murrey, of Brookhead. Wis. They wore privileged to enjoy 56 years of happy
companionship together when death claimed the wife just two months ago. To this union six children were born: Albert E. Kane, Spokine, Wash.; Mrs. W. M. King, of Kansas City,
deceased; Mrs. F. D. Fillmore, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. F. E. Fuller, Cedar .Falls; Mrs. R. (R. Wilson, Santa Rosa, Cal. and Roy A. Kane, Los Angeles, Cal.
The deceased was in every sense a pioneer of this community especially of Primghar. He turned the furrows and planted the trees in
the court house square, and saw the town grow from a settlement to a prosperous town and marketing center. Later he moved to Sanborn and then to Lake Okoboji where he and his wife spent their summers, seeking the companionship of their children and grand children during, the winter months.
He loved the Okoboji community second only to O'Brien county and was likewise identified with its early history. He lived in the Gardner
cabin of massacre fame and the town of Arnolds Park was built where he once maintained a wheat field.
He was a charter member of the Christian church of Primghar and died a loyal member of that faith.
In August, 1892. he joined the I.O.O.F. at
Primghar, to which local lodge he held continuous membership to the day of his death.
He is survived, by five children, two sons and three daughters, and fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
