Services in memory of John D. Meiske were held 2 p.m. Monday, September 26, 1988 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, Hartley. Rev. R.P. Albrecht officiated. Committal service was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Hartley.
John D. Meiske, the son of Chris and Lizzie Steinbeck Meiske, was born August 3, 1902, near Primghar in O'Brien County, Iowa. He was educated in rurual schools near his childhood home.
He was united in marriage to Sadie Zinn on March 14, 1929 at Spencer. They farmed near hartley for forty-one years, and John sold Pioneer Seed Corn for 24 years until they moved to town in 1961. Presently, John and Sadie were residents of Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn.
He was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. He enjoyed antiquing and refinishing. He was devoted to his family.
He passed away at Marian Health Center in Sioux City on September 23, 1988 at the age of 86. Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Lilly, and one brother, William.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sadie; two sons, Jay of Saint Paul, Minnesota and John and his wife, LaVaughn of Hartley; eight grandchildren, Susan, Sally, Thomas, Mary, Lori, Lee, Ann, and David; other relatives and friends.
