Kathryn Lucille Schierholz, the daughter of Alfred and Mary Clifford Lantaff, was born at Wayne, Nebraska on September 1, 1913. She moved to O'Brien County, Iowa, with her parents and graduated from Hartley High School in 1931, and attended Sheldon Junior College.

She was united in marriage to Alvin Schierholz on December 28, 1937, at Sanborn, Iowa. They farmed near Hartley until moving to town. Alvin passed away in 1979. She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church at Hartley, The Catholic Daughters of America and the St. Joseph Altar Society.

She was united in marriage to Gerald Epping on January 25, 1982 at Sanborn, Iowa.

She passed away at the hospital in Hartley on December 14, 1982 at the age of 69.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Alvin, two brothers, Bob and Stan Lanstaff, and her parents.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gerald; one son, Ed, of Hartley; three daughters, Marilynn Duffy of Des Moines, Jane Hansen of Marshalltown, and Mary Kay Eischeid of Staples, Minnesota; eleven grandchildren; one sister, Ellie Gallagher of Phoenix, Arizona and two brothers, Larry of Beresford, South Dakota and Bill of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hartley. Father Jerome Coyle officiated and burial was at the Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley. The Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
