Joyce E. Pauling, age 78 of Paullina, passed away Wednesday, July 06, 2011, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at Siloam Lutheran Church in Paullina. Pastor Elizabeth Pfeifle will officiate. Burial will take place at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina. A public gathering will begin at 4 p.m. today with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight at Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Marcus. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be made to Heartland Care Center in Marcus or the Alzheimer's Association. Joyce Emily Pauling, the daughter of George and Josephine (Durmich) Puhrmann was born on Aug. 16, 1932, in Meriden. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee County where she attended school and graduated from Larrabee High School in 1950. She then spent one year at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake.
On Aug. 26, 1951, Joyce was united in marriage to DuWayne Pauling. Joyce worked as a homemaker helping to raise their four children. She later worked for AEA 4 for 14 years as a bus driver. Joyce enjoyed sewing, crochet, and dancing. Most of all, she loved being around her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one very special brother-in-law, Arnold Carlson; and one very special sister-in-law, Sylvia Proehl.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 59 years, DuWayne Pauling of Paullina; four children: Kent (Terri) Pauling of Le Mars, Cal (Marilyn) Pauling of Spirit Lake, Beth (Patrick) Shea of Cedar Falls, and Dawn (John) Gilles of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Carlson of Marcus; one brother, George (Heather) Puhrmann of Licking, Mo.; as well as several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 9, 2011 Siloam Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa.
