Nellie Emma Richter, the daughter of Asmus and Emma Reichers Jurgensen, was born May 15, 1904, at her parents home near Calumet. She attended rural school near her childhood home.
On October 8, 1924, she was united in marriage to Walter Richter at her home in Calumet. After their marriage, they farmed in the Paullina area where she remained until her death on Wednesday, February 4, 1998, reaching the age of 93 years, 8 months and 20 days.
She was baptized on July 17, 1904, and later confirmed on June 12, 1920, at Zion Calumet. She was a long-time ember of the Zion Lutheran Church of Paullina.. She enjoyed the rigors or farm work and any outside activities. Other enjoyments were her plats, bowling and senior citizens.
Nellie leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Alice Mae and her husband, Donald Carnahan of Worthington Minnesota; two sons: Les and his wife Deanie of Granville and Bob and his wife, Rita, of Paullina; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Russell (Viola) Davis of Spirit Lake; also a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George and Harvey; and five sisters: Katie Wiese, Hilda Rehder, Clara, Martha Langhols Graesing, and Myrtle Carlson.
Funeral services for Nellie E. Richter were held on Monday, February 9, 1998, at the Zion Lutheran Church at Paullina, Iowa, with Rev. Steven Hayden officiating. Interment was at Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldrdge Funeral Home.
