George Walter Lowery
Funeral services were held here Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church for George Walter Lowery, brother of Mrs. Ida Putnam who passed away Thursday, May 15, in the hospital at Estherville.
George Walter Lowery was born at Parkersburg, Iowa, April 7, 1889. At the age of two years he moved with his parents to Sanborn, Ia., where he grew to manhood.
In August, 1909, he moved to Everly, Iowa, where he bought a barber shop and December 5, 1909, he was united in marriage to Cecile E. Hollister of Ocheyedan, Iowa. To this union was born one daughter, Lera Lu Von.
In October, 1917, he moved to Waterbury, Nebraska, and after residing there eleven years, he moved to Gruver, Iowa, his late home.
He has been in failing health the past year and three weeks ago he went to the Birney hospital at Estherville, Iowa, where he passed away Thursday, May 15, at the age of 41 years, 1 month and 8 days. Although he never was in rugged health, he was not one to complain, always looking on the bright side of life and thinking of the comfort of others before his own.
He will be missed by the entire community, each member of which he called friends; never speaking ill of anyone, always kind and considerate. A worthy son, and affectionate husband and father.
He wasw a member of the Modern Woodmen of Gruver and belonged to the Master Barbers Association of Estherville.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow, Cecile E. Lowery of Gruver, Iowa, one daughter, Lera Lu Von Lowery of Sioux City, Iowa, and aged mother, Mrs. Angeline Lowery of Sanborn, Iowa, three brotheres: Willard of Harris, Iowa, Bert of Springfield, Oregon, Jay of Sanborn, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Ida Putnam of Hartley, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church with Rev. W.H. Welch in charge. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery.
