William Nathaniel West was the son of the late Charles West and his wife Jennie, nee Haigh. He was born on the 23rd day of June, 1882 at Waverly, Iowa. During his childhood his parents moved to Lake Park, and later to Hartley. William received most of his schooling here at Hartley and also spent some time attending Commercial College at Des Moines. Upon his return he worked with is father, who was a carpenter by trade.

On New Year's Day of the year 1905, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Marie Catherine Frahm. They lived in South Dakota for a few years, after which they moved to Des Moines, spending seven years in that city. While in Des Moines they adopted a boy, Wilbur, whose presence added a real happiness to their life.

Mrs. Wests's failing health made it imperative for them to seek a milder climate, and they moved to Texas. While in Dallas, the attended the services at Oak Cliff Presbyterian church. On February 9, 1932, his beloved wife and faithful companion was called to her reward and the body was laid to rest in Hartley.

Mr. West and his son soon returned to Texas, Failing to find the hoped-for employment, Mr. West returned to Hartley last fall, first on the sad duty to bury his aged father, and in October he again returned and made his home with relatives. Five weeks ago he suffered a stroke which was followed by another six days ago. All efforts on the part of his dear ones and the best of medical care proved futile, and on Sunday evening, May 24th, at 10:40 o'clock, he passed away quietly at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Rose Bojens. He attained the age of only 50 years, 20 months and 21 days.

He is deeply mourned by his son Wilbur West; two sisters, Mrs. Bernard Dubbert of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Mrs. Ruther Bisbee of Lowry City, Missouri; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Otto Fick, and his brother in law, Harold Bojens of Hartley; nine nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. West was a quiet and unassuming man. To his wife during her long illness he was a devoted and loving husband, and to their adopted son, he was all that a father could be, and will be sadly missed by him.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Temple Funeral Home, and conductedby Rev. F.W. Bundy, who also sang two favorite selections of the departed, accompanied by Mrs. Harold Gonnerman. The body was laid to rest beside those of his wife and his father at Pleasant View cemetery.
