This community was greatly shocked and saddened Tuesday evening when it was learned that little Richard Whalen had died very suddenly at about 7:30 pm.
Richard was a sturdy lad, nine years old, and had been seeminly in his usual good health; early Tuesday evening he went to the Leo Harrington home next door to his home, where he went often as Donald Harrington is near his age. After being admitted and without saying anything about feeling ill, he fell to the floor. He was immediately taken home and the doctor called. Dr. Maria was out on call and Mrs. Maye Leemkuil went to render what assistance she could, but the lad died shortly after being stricken and before anything could be done to revive him.
As the death was so sudden and unexplainable, the county coroner was summoned.
Richard was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whalen and a member of the fourth grade at the local public school. He has one older brother, Keith.
Funeral services are being planned for Friday afternoon.
