Joe Edward Wolthuizen, the son of Jacob and Ieke (DeVries) Wolthuizen, was born at Monroe, South Dakota on Ocotber 8, 1923. At an early age, he moved with his family to Sanborn where he lived his youth and received his education. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II from August 27, 1943 to December 6, 1945.
He was united in marriage to Viola J. Prince on May 28, 1954 at Sanborn, Iowa, and to this union two children were born. Following their marriage, they resided in Sanborn where he was employed with Co-op Oil for twenty-five years, followed by fourteen years of employment with the City of Sanborn. They moved to Luverne Minnesota in October, 1977.
Joe died at Sioux Valley Hospital at Sioux Falls, South Dakota on October 16, 1999 at the age of 76 years, eight days.
He is survived by his wife, Viola of Luverne, Minnesota; his children: Nancy and Joe Mulder of Lake Benton, Minnesota, and Dale and Denise Wolthuizen of Edgerton, Minnesota; five grandchildren; two sisers: Fannie Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Margaret Wolthuizen of Saint Paul, Minnesota, other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother, two brothers; Marion and Harvey, and one sister, Emma Tifft.
Joe was a member of the Luverne Christian Reformed Church and Earl T. Conaway Post No. 318 American Legion of Sanborn.
Military grave site rites were conducted by earl T. Conaway Post No. 318. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.
