Funeral services were held for Mrs. Gertrude Powell at the Sanborn Funeral Home at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, May 17. Rev. S.J. Baldwin officiated. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery.

Gertude Julia Thompson, daughter of Orrin and Francis [sic] Thompson, was born September 8, 1880 at Greenville, Illinois. She spent her life in that vicinity until her marriage to Thomas Chamberlain in February, 1899. They moved to St. Louis, Missouri where they lived several years. They then moved to Brighton, Illinois, and also lived in Chicago.

The Chamberlains were the parents of four children: Frances and Florence, who died in infancy; Thomas of Palos Park, Illinois, and Gertrude (Mrs. Sanford) Hendershot of Sanborn.

She married Clyde Powell on March 13, 1936 at Chandler, Minnesota. The Powells moved to the present home in Sanborn in March of 1942.

Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by the two daughters; her husband, Clyde on November 18, 1954; and three brothers, George, William and Nathan.

She is survived by the two children; two brothers, Lucian of Springfield, Missouri, and Edward of Gonzales, Texas; three grandchildren, six step-grandchildren: Floyd Powell, Fairfax, Minnesota, Glenn Powell, Auburn, California, Chrystal (Mrs. Raymond) Runge, Rochester, Minnesota, Thelma (Mrs. Herman) Clark, Marshall, Texas. Florence (Mrs. K.H.) Dickmeyer, Fairfax, Minnesota, and Sybil (Mrs. Nick) Lucas, Seattle, Washington; 15 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Powell united with the fellowship of Saint Andrew's Methodist church with her husband on April 5, 1942.

She underwent surgery in a Sioux City hospital last Thursday and died there on Saturday, May 14.
