Funeral services were held at the Sanborn Funeral Home Monday afternoon for Clyde Powell, who passed away last Thursday. Rev. B.J. Baldwin, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated.

Clyde Acton Powell, son of George and Augusta Powell, was born February 6, 1877, at Hastings, Minnesota. He was brought by his parents to Sanborn, Iowa, when he was two months old. Clyde is believed to have been the first baby to live in Sanborn.

On April 2, 1901, he married Elsie Barrows. They homesteaded at Chandler, Minnesota, where Mr. Powell engaged in farming for a number of years. They were the parents of seven children: Floyd of Fairfax, Minnesota, Glenn of Auburn, California, Chrystal (Mrs. Raymond) Runge, Rochester, Minnesota; Thelma (Mrs. Herman) Clark, Marshall, Texas; Florence (Mrs. K.H.) Dickmeyer, Fairfax, Minnesota, Sybil (Mrs. Nick) Lucas, Seattle, Washington, and a son, Fred, who died at the age of twenty-one.

Mr. Powell's first wife died on March 6, 1929.

He married Gertrude Bartling on March 13, 1936 at Chandler, Minnesota. After he quit farming, Mr. Powell operated the Ford Garage in Chandler for several years. He and his wife then retired to Sanborn in March of 1942, and have lived in the same house since.

He is survived by his wife, six children; two step-children, Gertrude (Mrs. Sanford) Hendershot, Sanborn; and Thomas Chamberlain, Palos Park,Illinois, 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, his son Fred and his two brothers and sister: Fred Powell, Albert Slocum and Mrs. Cora Stock.

Mr. Powell united with St. Andrew's Methodist church on April 5, 1942.

He suffered a heart attack on November 4, 1953 and had been confined to his home most of the time since. He died at home Thursday, November 18.

Burial was in Roseland Cemetery.

Relatives attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Runge of Rochester, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Clark of Marshall, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Dickmeyer and son, Mr. Floyd Powell, Fairfax, Minnesota, Mrs. Dorothy Church, Sheldon, Mr. and Mrs. William Plut, Fulda, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. T.F. Chamberlain Jr. of Palos Park, Illinois, and Mrs. Gladys Hanson, Chandler, Minnesota.
