Verlis Richard Fanning, the son of Grover and Edith Gathman Fanning, was born March 29, 1915 in Harrison Township, Osceola County, Iowa. He graduated from the Hartley, Iowa High School in 1934.
He was united in marriage to Evelyn Fahrenkrog at Sioux City, Iowa, on November 19, 1937. The made their home at Hartley and Verlis was self employed in the construction business, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Trinity United Chruch of Christ, and had been a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Bricklayers and Plasterers Union.
He passed away at Hartley on March 14, 1987 at the age of 72. Preceding him in death were his parents and one step-grandson, Mike DeWitt.
Left to cherish hes memory are his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Pat and Mike; a daughter, Dixie DeWitt; eight grandchildren [redacted]; one sister, Verlene Mori of Hartley; and two brothers, Verle of California and Vernon of Des Moines, as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Trinity Uited Church of Christ on March 17. Burial was at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley.
