Christ Peters, the son of Edo and Margaret Jensen[sic] Peters, was born August 27, 1886 at Morrison, Illinois. He passed away at his home in Hartley, Iowa, on August 4, 196 at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 7 days. He had attended schools in Illinois, but had lived in the Hartley community most of his life.
He was married on September 1, 1916 to Lillie Newkirk, at Hartley. To them were born 11 children. The family resided in Hartley, where he was employed at the light plant for a number of years, and then worked for the Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad for about 15 years. He had also worked for the county.
He was preced in death by his parents and brothers, and by four children: Dorothy, Francis, Everett and Viva jane.
Surviving are his wife, Lillie; his children: Clarence of Portae, Michigan, Lavonne (Mrs. Orn Johnson) of Willet River, Minnesota), Iona Osterson of Spencer, Iowa, Opal (Mrs Walter Wright) of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Robert of Hartley; 30 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, two sisters: Mrs. Minnie Magee of Hartley and Mrs. Emma Byrne of Los Angeles, California as well as other relatives and many friends.
Services were held for Mr. Peters on August 7 at the Baumgarten Funeral Home with Rev. D.D. Samuelson officiating. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley.
