John D. Kelly (sic) was born in Rome, Oneida County, New York, August 9, 1846. When a young man, he came to Illinois and later to Iowa. For thirty-seven years he lived in O'Brien and Osceola counties.
On March 7, 1872 he was united in marriage to Ida Ostrander. Five children were born to this union, two sons and three daughters -- John B Kelly of Hartley, Iowa; Mrs. Eva Wilson of Hartley, Iowa; Mrs. Elva Thomas of Echo, Minnesota; Mrs. May Hunter of Pierre, S.D.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, five children and besides four sisters and one brother in the state of New York.
Mr. Kelly had been in failing health for the past three years and passed to his reward Monday, June 10, 1918 at 8:30 PM.
The funeral of John D. Kelly was held Wednesday, June 12th at 2 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eva Wilson.
The singing was in charge of Misses Thessa and Vietta Brown.
Rev. W.O. Tompkins spoke comforting words to the bereaved relatives and friends, after which the mourners and friends departed for the Pleasant View cemetery where interment was made. [sic - burial was made at Holman Cemetery. ja]
