It is with deep sympathy for the bereaved husband and family that we record the death of Mrs. Amos Teakle, one of the esteemed women of Hartley.
Margaret Booth was born August 16, 1847 in Arbroath, Scotland, and grew to womanhood in the family home in her native land. In 1872, she came to the United States and settled in Keokuk County, Iowa.
She became the wife of Amos Teakle on March 11, 1875 and resided in Keokuk County until 1883 when the family moved to Audobon County. In 1892 another move was made, the family coming to O'Brien County where they have since resided, for seven years, on the farm southeast of Hartley, and since that time in Hartley.
About a year ago, she became ill with leakage of the heart, and her strength gradually failed through the month until she fell asleep Friday November 8, 1918.
Mrs. Teakle was the mother of three children: Mrs. Agnes Moore, who has lived with her parents, Thomas Teakle of Des Moines, and Mrs. Jennie Davis of Artesian, S.D., all of whom survive their mother. She was also the grandmother of three children. All these together with the husband, feel the great sorrow of bereavement.
The deceased accepted the Christian faith when a girl in the old home and united with the Presbyterian Church. After coming to America, she became a member of the Presbyterian church in Scotland, Keokuk County, Iowa, [sic] and was a consistent in the Christian life to the end.
She was a modest, quiet character, but highly esteemed by a large circle of neighbors and friends.
The funeral services were held in the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, November 11th, conducted by Rev. T.S. Bassett, and the interment was made in the Hartley Cemetery by Undertaker Berne, the pall bearers being chosen from the Masonic fraternity.
The following relatives from away were in attendance at the funeral: Mrs. Jennie Davis, Artesian SD; Mrs. Geo. Clyde, Artesian, S.D.; Thomas Teakle, Des Moines, Iowa.
