Mrs. Caroline Charlotta Schade

Another of the most respected and beloved pioneer mothers of this community was called to her reward last Thursday morning at 3 o'clock at her home. She passed away quietly after having endured the frailties of life for the past six weeks.

Mrs. Caroline Charlotta Schade was the daughter of Henry Beinke and his wife Louise, nee Illian, and was born on May 5th, 1852 in Waldeck, in Germany. Here she was baptized and later confirmed into the Faith of the Evangelical Lutheran church. Here she also received her education.

Early in her life her parents emigrated and came to Scott County, Iowa, and on January 25, 1877, she was united in marriage to Mr. William Schade at Davenport, Iowa. For 29 years she shared with her husband the joys and hardships of a pioneer farmer's life and proved herself a devoted wife and a real Christian mother to her five children of whom one little daughter, Dorothea, preceded her in death in May, 1890, while six years of age.

All too soon, death parted her from her beloved husband with whom she had lived together first in the vicinity of Durant, Iowa, and later, in the year of 1893, they moved to O'Brien County where they resided on a farm north of Hartley for the next 15 years. After Mr. Schade's death, she moved to Hartley where she lived until she passed away.

Mrs. Schade was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical church of Hartley and of its Ladies Aid and Dorcas society. She was a well-beloved member of the Rebekah lodge. Mrs. Schade will be greatly missed by her dear ones and many friends. She attained the age of 83 years, 6 months and 16 days.

She is survived by four daughters, Fredericka, Mrs Adolph Henning of Moneta, Iowa; Mary, Mrs. Gus Meyer of Hartley; Elizabeth, Mrs. John Sievers of Hartley, and by Miss Lulu Schade who never had left the home of her dear mother; her only sister, Mrs. Fredericka Muhs of Hartley; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Henry Beinke of Wilton Junction, Iowa; one brother in law, Mr. Herman Koch of Walcott, Iowa; three sons-in-law, thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Thus another great life has come to an end and we rejoice to know that there is no death which can separate use from the Love of God which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, November 23rd at 1:30 o'clock in the afternoon at the house and at 2 o'clock at the Methodist churc, Rev. F.W. Budy, officiating. Music was furnished by the mixed quartette of Trinity church. Interment was in Pleasant View cemetery.
