Funeral services for Mrs. Ben Philiph were conducted Saturday afternoon, November 4th in the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa with the Rev. L. W. Steffen officiating. Two hymns "What A Friend We Have In Jesus " and "Rock of Ages " were sung by several ladies. Serving as pallbearers were Glen Kinton, Clifford Hanson, Joh n Geerdes, Oscar Walstrom, Fred Karcher and George Welker. Interment took place in North Lawn Cemetery at Spencer, Iowa, with the Warner Funeral Chapel in charge.

Bertha Sophia Philiph, wife of Ben Philiph, was called to her eternal rest Tuesday morning, October 31, 1961. She passed away unexpectedly from a blood clot. She attained the age of 75 years, one month and three days.

Mrs. Philiph, born September 28, 1886, in Iowa County, Iowa, was received into membership of the Lutheran Church by the Rev. Hesse, October 24, 1886. She renewed her baptismal vow by the rite of confirmation on March 31, 1901, by the Rev. Herman Weschhof in May City, Iowa, St. John's Lutheran Church.

She was married to Ben Philiph February 6, 1908 by the Reverend Bruno Richtor, in her parents' home in Osceola County. They lived on a farm in Osceola county until 1911, when they moved to heir own farm in Dickinson County. In 1943 they moved to Spencer, where she was a member of the First English Lutheran Church until two years ago. Because of their healthy they moved to Mesa, Arizona, where she died. She was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Mesa at the time of her death, October 31, 1961.

Survivors include her husband, Ben Philiph, three daughters, Mabel (Mrs. Hugo Petersen, May City); Laura (Mrs. J . I. Conner, Arnolds Park) ; Ella (Mrs. Sam
Barman , Spencer) ; two brothers and two sisters, Chas. Centner, Hartley ; Otto Centner , Wiley, Colorado ; Emma (Mrs. Mansel Ridinger, Des Moines); and Edna Centner, Primghar; two grand children, Merle Petersen, May City ; and Valerie Conner, Arnolds Park ; three sons-in-law ; two sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends.

Her parents and one sister , Ida, preceded her in death.
