Mrs. Karina Berntson, the eldest daughter of Ole B. and Anna Olson Lura, was born July 13, 1884, at Mayville, N. Dak. She received her education in the Mayville and Wahpeton schools.
On October 4, 1906, she was united in marriage to Bert K. Berntson of Gilman, Iowa, at her home. They resided on a farm near Gilman until 1911 when they moved to their farm northeast of Paullina. This union was blessed with 7 children, two of whom, Burdette and Beulah, passed away in childhood.
Mr. and Mrs. Berntson celebrated their golden wedding in 1965 and were privileged to have last October Mrs. Berntson had been in failing health for many years, but her death came as a shock, as she passed away suddenly Friday morning, Feb. 9. She was 83.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 12 at Siloam Lutheran Church, Rev. William Smith officiating. with interment in Prairie View Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, three sons, Leslie, Glenn, and Curtiss of Paullina, two daughters, Alice, Mrs .Oscar Fjeld of Primghar and Ardyth, Mrs. Vernon Hibbing of Paullina, 14 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Gardia Coleman, who had lovingly cared for Mrs. Bentson the past years, and Misses Bertin and Martha Lura all of Fargo, N. Dak., and one brother, Dr. Casper Lura of Mayville. There were four brothers and one sister who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Berntson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a member of Siloam Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Ladies Aid.
Although an arthritic invalid for many years she always remained cheerful, optomistic, and alert, and was a source of inspiration to alll who knew her. She will be missed by a host of friends.
Relatives attending from a distance were Rev. Roger Fjeld of Denver, Colo., Charles Fjeld of Chicago, Mrs. Coleman, Bertina and Martha Lura, Oscar Folden of Minot, N. Dak., Mrs. Allan Mitchell of Blue Earth, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Martin Carlson, Gilman, also relatives from Humboldt, Thor, Holstein and Armstrong.
