Bernt K. Berntson, the son of Lars and Inger Hestad Berntson, was born June 30, 1877, in Norway and emigrated with his parents to America while a young boy. They settled at Ada, Minn., and later moved to Marshall County, Iowa, where he finished his education.

He was married October 4, 1906 to Karina Lura at Mayville, N Dak. They farmed at Gllman, Iowa until 1911 when they moved to a farm northeast of Paullina. This union was blessed with seven children, two of whom passed away in childhood.

Mr and Mrs. Berntson celebrated their golden wedding in 1956 and were privileged to have observed their 61st anniversary last October.

Mr. Berntson was actively engaged in farming until his wife's arthritic condition required his increasing attention. He patiently and devotedly cared for her for about fifteen years until his own health began to fail about four years ago. He entered Hartley Community Hospital the day preceding his wife's death and was there 18 days when he peacefully passed away February 26 at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 27 days.

Funeral services were held at Siloam Lutheran Church of Paullina where he was a member, having been baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Services were conducted by Rev. William Smith on February 29. The soloist was Mrs. Richard Gnessel who sang "O For a Closer Walk With Thee" an d "Beneath the Cross of Jesus. " She also sang these favorite hymns at Mrs Berntson's funeral, held 17 days earlier. Organist was Mrs Otis Grosvenor. Pallbearers were Omar Hagen, Bert Axdahl, Carney Thompson, Elmer Stangeland, Gene Berntson and Paul Hibbing. Interment was in Prairie View Cemetery.

In addition to his wife and two children, Burdette and Beulah, Mr. Berntson was preceded in death by three sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Leslie, Glenn and Curtiss, all of Paullina, two daughters, Alice (Mrs. Oscar Fjeld) of Promghar and Ardyth (Mrs. Vernon Hibbing) of Paullina, 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Tow of Marshalltwon; on brother, Tobias, of Minneapolis; and other relatives and friends.

Relatives attending from a distance included Mrs. Jacob Kvinloug and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Carlson of Gilman, Mrs. Gardia Coleman, Misses Martha and Bertina Lura of Fargo, N.D., Mrs Christina Knutson, Mrs. Anna Lund and Mra. and Mrs. Ernest Weiss of Humboldt, also friends from Luverne and Brewser, Minn., Sioux Rapids, Peterson and Armstrong.
