Mrs. John Mottz, nee Elizabeth Marie Bittle, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Kopp Bittle, was born Aug. 18, 1886 at Des Moines, Ia. She passed away at the Hartley Community Hospital in Hartley, Ia., at the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 6 days. She had been hospitalized about a month preceding her death.
She had attended the public schools in Des Moines, was graduated from East High School there, and then attended the American Institute of Business at Des Moines. She had followed a newspaper career most of her life. She was a great lover of nature, and her greatest hobby was the study and care of birds.
Her marriage to Edwin C. McSheehy took place in 1909 at Des Moines. They purchased the Lake View Resort, and moved to Lake View Aug. 1, 1912. They sold the newspaper in 1915, but continued to live in Lake View. In 1930 her husband passed away, but she continued to work for the Resort until 1939. In December of that year she moved to Missouri.
For the past 30 years she had resided there, first at Waynesville, then at Devil's Elbow, and finally at St. James. For the past few months she had lived qith her daughter in Hartley.
In 1944 she was married to John Mottz. He also preceded her in death, as did her parents, and two brothers: Albert and Will.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lenore (Mrs. Wendell Romey) of Hartley, four grand - daughters; Mrs. Eric Orzeck of Charlottesville, Virginia, Mrs. Robert Lindgren of Hartley, Mrs. Larry Fedderson of Anchorage, Alaska, and Wendy Romey, one great grand-daughter Gina Marie Lindgren, two brothers Joe J. Bittle of Glendale, California, and Gerald F. Bittle of Santa Rosa, California, several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and her many friends.
