John Douglas Boer was born on August 1, 1954 at Sheldon, Iowa. He lived his youth on the farm east of Sanborn, Iowa and attended the Sanborn Christian School. He attended Western Christian High at Hull, Iowa where he graduated in 1972. He attended Northwest Iowa Vocational School in Sheldon, Iowa for Body Repair and was employed at the Sioux Body Shop at Sioux Center, Iowa. He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Hartley, Iowa.

He passed away as the result of a one car accident near Sioux Center, Iowa on September 16, 1978 at the age of 24 years, one month and 15 days.

He is survived by his parents, Peter and Kathleen Boer of Hartley, Iowa; two brothers, Jeffrey Alan and Kevin Jay at home and Mrs. Al (Marlys Faye) Schoenwetter of Klemme, Iowa; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Boer of Boyden, Iowa; his friend, Val DeVries, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Christian Reformed Church of Sanborn on Tuesday, Sept. 19 with Rev. Tom Vander Ziel officiating. Interment was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
