Emma M. Strampe, the daughter of William and Katharina Schmidt Schultz, was born November 1, 1896, near Paullina, in O'Brien County, Iowa. She received her schooling in O'Brien County rural schools.
On March 26, 1918, she was united in marriage to Walter J. Strampe in O'Brien County, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple settled in Paullina where she owned and operated Strampe Variety Store in Paullina for 43 years before her retirement. Walter preceded her in death on September 20, 1980, in Sioux City.
Emma continued to make her home in Paullina until passing away on Monday, February 8, 1988, at the Wide View Rest Home, reaching the age of 91 years, 3 months and 7 days.
Emma was baptized on June 3, 1900 and later confirmed on Palm Sunday of 1910 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown and was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. She leaves to mourn her passing, one daughter, Maicella Young of Annapolis, Maryland; one son, Harlan and wife, Maxine of Elkader; five grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; one step brother, Jerry Awe of Algdna, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
