Mellie Leola (Waid) ALDRED

October 22, 1888 --- June 24, 1964

Mrs. Mellie Leola Aldred, the daughter of Andrew O. and Mary Hofius Waid, was born near Iowa Falls, Iowa, October 22, 1888, and departed from this life, June 24, 1964, while a patient in the Sioux Valley hospital in Cherokee, Iowa. As a youth she lived near Goldfield, Iowa, where she attended the country and public schools. The Waid family moved to Sutherland fifty-four years ago where the deceased had resided since. On October 24, 1917, her marriage to Charles Aldred was performed in Sheldon, Iowa. To them was born a daughter, Arline.

At one time Mrs. Aldred was a piano teacher and also clerked in several of the Sutherland businesses. She had assisted her husband with the operation of their hardware store until his death in 1950. She had been a member of the Home and Garden Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Library Board, and the Methodist Woman's Society of Christian Service, and had held offices in these various organizations.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, three sisters, and one brother. Those who survive include her devoted daughter, Miss Arline A. Aldred of Sutherland, Iowa, relatives and long cherished friends and neighbors.

Funeral services, under the direction of Baumgarten's were held in the Sutherland Methodist Church, Friday afternoon, June 26, 1964, 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Warren A. Bintz was in charge, with interment being made in the Waterman cemetery.
