Katherine Navis Elgersma (1893-1990)

Katherine Navis, the daughter of Garret and Mary (Hofland) Navis, was born November 2, 1893 in Iowa. She was married to Harry J. Elgersma in 1914 at Sanborn, Iowa. Following their marriage the couple farmed around Sanborn for a number of years and moved to Wisconsin in 1941.

She worked for many years in housekeeping at Waupun Memorial Hospital, Waupun, Wisc, and the Christian Home. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun and was active in its Ladies' Aid.

Katherine passed away August 2, 1990 at Continental Manor Nursing Home in Randolph, Wisc, at the age of 96 years.

She is survived by one son, Gerrit (Olivene)Elgersma of Beaver Dam, Wisc , three daughters: Mrs. Clarence (Mary) Klaver of Sanborn, Ia., Mrs. George (Elsie) Streekstra of Friesland,Wisc, and Mrs. Cliff (Gladys) Syens of Randolph, Wise , one sister, Delia Damsteegt of Waupun, Wise , one brother, George Navis of Waupun, Wisc., 29 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1965, one son, Jacob in 1938, one sister and seven brothers.

Funeral services were held August 4 at Bethel Christian Reformed Church at Waupun, Wisc., with Rev. Donald Boss officiating. A prayer service was held August 7 at Sanborn Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Osland officiating. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, Iowa, with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.
