Reggie Ray Kroese (1948-1977)

Reggie Ray Kroese, son of Martin and Darlene Kroese, was born in Primghar, Iowa, on April 3, 1948. He lived his youth, attended school and grew to young manhood in the Sanborn, Iowa vicinity.

He was united in marriage to Patty Jo Fitting on June 7, 1969. Their married life was lived in the Sanborn, Iowa vicinity. He entered the Armed Forces in 1965 and served in Vietnam and was discharged in 1968.

He passed away at Canton, South Dakota, on October 19, 1977 at the age of 29 years, six months and 16 days. The death was the result of an accidental gunshot wound.

He is survived by his wife, Patti Jo, four daughters [redacted], his parents, Martin and Darlene Kroese of Sanborn; two brothers. Rodney of Calmar, Ia. and Brian of Grand Forks, N.D.; two sisters: Mrs. Jerry (Rexann) Leng of Primghar, Ia. and Mrs. Jack (Nancy) Elgersma of Sanborn, Ia.; and his paternal grandmother, Mary Kroese of Sanborn, Ia.

Funeral services were held Oct. 22 at St. John's Lutheran Church of Sanborn with Rev. Michael Holsten officiating. Casket bearers were Byron Sampson, Otto Selk, Randall Brinkman, Leroy Post, Pete Vos and Stanley Snyder.

The congregation sang two hymns, "Nearer My God to Thee " and "Abide With Me" . Mrs. Don Hakeman was organist. Interment was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn with the Flag presentation by
Sanborn American Legion Post. Sanborn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
