Dorothea Friederike Christina Bobzien (1859-1940)

Mrs. Dorothea Friederike Christina Bobzien was born May 9, 1859 at Mecklenburgh, Schweirn, Germany. Four days later she was baptized in the Lutheran church there. At the age of fourteen years she came to the United States with her parents and they settled at Dubuque. Here she wa s confirmed in the Lutheran church.

On November 19, 1874 she was married to William Bobzien. From Dubuque they moved to a farm in Benton county, Iowa. In 1908 they moved to South Dakota and after twelve years they retired and since have lived in Paullina.

Mr. Bobzien died October 31, 1925 and of their twelve children, four sons and one daughter survive.

One year ago Mrs. Bobzien underwent an operation but regained her strength so that she could continue her household duties until one week before her death. She was a regular attendant in the Lutheran church until a year ago. She gave willingly to all causes when she was able and until her death she was a faithful reader of the church papers.

Mrs. Bobzien departed life November 14, 1940 at the age of 81 years, 6 months. Funeral services were held Sunday November 17 at the Zion Lutheran church with the Rev J Hartmeister officiating. Burial was made in the Prairie View cemetery.

The surviving children are Mrs Ida Stauffer and Otto both of Oregon, William of South Dakota, Ferdinand of North Dakota and Hugo of Paullina. There are twenty-three grand children and sixteen great grand children. Besides these she leaves many friends to mourn her departure.
