Jan Marie Wickstrom, 59, died June 12 at Green Gables residence in Mahtomedi, following a progressive decline. Jan was born on April 4, 1951, in Oakland, NE, and grew up in the small towns of Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota. After her graduation from Willmar High School, she attended the University of Minnesota Morris and the University of Minnesota Medical School. With deep compassion for people and abiding interest in their lives, she entered the Bethesda Family Medicine Program in St. Paul and became a family physician.

Very early in her medical career she suffered a life-changing head injury, the innocent victim of a high-speed auto chase. Although she recovered physically, Dr. Wickstrom was unable to resume the practice of medicine. She resided in St. Paul for many years until moving to Mahtomedi late last year. She is remembered for her warmth, joyous laughter, and remarkable perseverance in the face of difficulty.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Millie Miller Wickstrom. She is survived by her devoted father and stepmother, Lindy (Harland) and Alvera Wickstrom of Brookings, SD; brothers, Jeff Wickstrom of Colleyville, TX, and Harry Wickstrom of Aurora, CO; and five nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul on Thursday, June 17 at 12:00 noon, and burial will be in Oakland, NE.
