John William Mohni, the son of Albert and Emma Mohni, was born on November 14, 1907 near Everly. It was in that area that he received his early education. On February 14, 1930, he married Ersel B. Roberts in Spirit Lake. Following their marriage the couple made their home in the Hartley and Everly area before moving to Hartley in 1956. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley.
Mr. Mohni died Tuesday, January 11, 1994 at his home at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Irvin Mohni and his wife Margaret of Hartley; one daughter, Neoma Puhrmann and her husband Ralph of Paullina; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers: William Mohni of Hartley and Oscar Mohni of Spencer; three sisters: Tillie Roggenburg of Hartley, Marie Wiese and her husband Harry of Hartley, and Louise Steinbeck and her husband Wilbur of Campbells Port, Wisconsin; other relatives and friends.
Services in memory of John Mohni were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 14, 1994 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Rev. Milo Sheldon officiated. Casket bearers were Lynwood Mohni, Dennis Pearson, Sandra Mohni, Donald Thooft, Brad Schimmer, Leon Puhrmann, Wayne Fiddelke and Jan Puhrmann. Honorary casket bearers were Wilbert Rusch, Norman Lux, Dale Adolf, Curtis Espey, Orville Rusch and Ray Koehnk. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley, with Warner-Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
