Margaret Mae (Schmidt) Mohni, the daughter of Hans and Esther (Bobolz) Schmidt was born at Paullina, Iowa, on February 21,1935. She lived in the Paullina area until the age of seven when she moved with her family to a farm near Hartley. Margaret received her education in Paullina and Hartley, graduating from Hartley High School in 1953.
Margaret was united in marriage to Irvin Mohni on May 31, 1953, at Petersburg, Virginia. Following their marriage they resided at Petersburg for 18 months before returning to the Hartley area where they were engaged in farming.
Margaret died at the St. Luke's Medical Center at Sioux City on September 16, 1995. She is survived by her husband, Irvin of Hartley; her children: Lynwood and Sandra Mohni, Lanette and Dennis Pearson and Lisa and Brad Schimmer, all of Hartley; her grandchildren: Cassandra and Alice Mohni, Amber and Jeremy Pearson, and Madison and Nyles Schimmer; one sister, Mrs. Duaine (Helenc) Keller of Mesa, Arizona; one uncle, Arnold Bobolz of Lincoln, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Margaret was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ of Hartley where she served on the Consistory and was a member of the Dorcas Society. She also belonged to the P.E.O., and various bridge and card clubs. Margaret enjoyed social activities and entertaining her family and friends, traveling, spending time at their cottage at the Lakes, and helping with the farming operation.
Funeral services in memory of Margaret Mae Mohni were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 1995 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Rev. Milo Sheldon officiated. Pallbearers were Norman Lux, Dale Adolf, George Mills, Robert Jensen, Lester Tewes and Gerald Raveling. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery of Hartley. Sanborn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
