Bernard Seivert, the son of Fred and Gertrude (Hatting) Seivert, was born at Ashton, Iowa on June 5,1914. He lived his youth in the Ashton area and received his education at the Ashton Catholic School.
He was united in marriage to Mabel Feenstra at Ashton, Iowa on September 10, 1938, and to this union five children were born. Following their marriage they lived at Ashton and then moved to a farm near Sibley. In 1948 they moved to a farm northwest of Sanborn where they resided until moving in to Sanborn in 1971.
Mabel died on August 31, 1991. Bernie entered Prairie View Home at Sanborn on December 27, 1993, and he died there on March 3, 1995, at the age of 80 years, eight months and 28 days.
He is survived by his children: Fred and Marlene Seivert of Sibley, Marlys Gramlow of Remsen, Earl and Carol Seivert, and Mitch and Madeleine Seivert, all of Sanborn: grandchildren: Bradley, Bruce, Brian, Kevin, Klmberll, Pierce, Corey, Stacey, Bret, and Aimee; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin of Ashton, and one sister, Eva Huss of Ashton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Dennis, and one brother, Clarence.
Bernie was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church of Sanborn and an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. Special hobbles he enjoyed were fishing and playing cards.
Funeral services were held March 7 at St Cecilia's Catholic Church in Sanborn with Father Cecil Friedmann officiating. Casket bearers were Eugene Elgersma, Merle Vander Woude, Rich Vander Werff, John Zevenbergen, Glenn Strubbe and Phil Kaiser. Organist was Burnell Johnson. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, with the Sanborn Funeral Home Service in charge.
