Madonna Mae Towne, the daughter of Harry and Ethel Gettis Anderson [sic], was born November 17, 1932, in Howard County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Emmons, Minnesota, where she received her education, graduating from Emmons High School in 1950. Donna went to Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota, where she received her RN degree.
Donna married Wally Towne on December 5, 1954, in Emmons. Following their marriage, they lived in Albert Lea where she worked as a Registered Nurse. On January 10, 1958, they moved to Hartley where she worked at the Spencer and Hartley hospitals. At the age of 36, she continued her education to become a Hospital Administrator, which she achieved and was Administrator of the Hartley Community Memorial Hospital for 20 years. She was a Board member of the Iowa Hospital Association and a member of the National Hospital Association.
Donna was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley She enjoyed golfing, fishing; camping, and especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. Towne passed away at her home in Hartley on Thursday, April 18, 2002, at the age of 69. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Woodrow and Patrick Andersen; three sisters: Darlene Andersen, Ode Bresee and Audrey Oppergard; and a grandson, Hunter Towne.
She is survived by her husband, Wallace of Hartley; two sons: Jeff and his wife, Lori of Milford, Iowa, and Larry and his wife, Angie Towne of Hartley; one daughter and her husband, Deb and Tom McNally of Hartley; eight grandchildren [redacted]; two sisters: Margaret Hanson of Los Alamos, New Mexico and Cora Dennett of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother, Jay Andersen of Albert Lea, Minnesota; other relatives and many friends.
Services in memory of Madonna Mae Towne were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley, Iowa. Rev. David Ericksen officiated. Casket bearers were Jerry Roth, Red Getting, Bob Hansen, Jim Hesse, Dick Ashpole and Ian McNally. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
