Services In memory of Bertha Anderson were held 12:30 p.m. Saturday. December 9. 1969 at Petersen Funeral Home at Forest City. Rev. John Albrecht officiated. Casket bearers were Leonard Adams, Larry Steele. Ralph Gieser, Robert Steele, Thomas Gieser and Kevin Puhrmann. Interment was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley, with Rev. Stokes Snyder officiating.

Bertha Anderson was born on a farm near Hartley on February 17. 1900, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Ahrend) Schmoll. She received her education in a rural school near her home, and was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Reformed Church in Hartley.

On February 25, 1922, she was married to Gus W. Anderson at the home of her parents near Hartley. The Andersons farmed near Hartley until retiring in 1956 and moved to Fairmont, Minnesota. Mr. Anderson died on June 1, 1975, Mrs. Anderson continued to live in Fairmont until 1983 when she moved to the South View Apartments in Joice to be closer to her family.

She became ill at her home on Tuesday evening, December 5. 1989. and died shortly after at the Lake Mills Medical Clinic. She was 89 years of age.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maryon and Arvid Holtan of Joice; her grandson and his wife, Bruce and Evelyn Holtan of Joice; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother. August Schmoll, and sisters, Anna Schmoll and Alvena Gieser.
