William Edward Henderson, son of William Edward and Susan Davidson Henderson was born near Quebec, Canada on June 5, 1835, and departed this life on October 16, 1920 at the advanced age of 91 years, 4 months and 11 days. He was the fifth of a family of 14, all preceding him in death.
He was confirmed and baptized in the Episcopal church in early youth and adhered closely to much of the teachings of the Good Book, especially the verse, "Whatever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them."
He was united in marriage on Sept. 14, 1872 to Miss Marth E. Sealey, at Inverness, Canada. To this union was born four children. Ms. Minnie May Henderson. Mrs. Elizabeth L. Henderson, George R. Henderson of Rutland, S.D. and Mrs. Jane E. He___ of Fostoria, Iowa.
He moved to Clay County, Iowa, settling near Spencer in the year 1873, at which place he resided till age and infirmities caused him to retire and he came to live with his daughter in Paullina. He was truly one of the pioneers and a great lover of horses and rode a favorite one from Quebec, Canada to Iowa in 187e. He was of a very jovial disposition and never took life seriously and seemed quite happy even to the last. He always lived a very temperate live.
He leaves to mourn his departure his four children, five grandchildren. H. George Henderson, Jennings W. Henderson, and John D. Henderson. Mrs. Marian Steinbeck and Miss Frances Strand, of Sioux City, three great grandsons, his wife having preceded him in death five years ago. Thus passes another of the pioneers. Peace to his ashes. God laid him away as ripe fruit of his vineyard with his beautiful leaves of autumn.
