News reached Paullina last week of the passing from this life of Wilbert Cecil Metcalf on Saturday evening, June 8, 1918, at 11:15 o'clock at his home in Los Angeles, California.

He was born at Eldora, Iowa May 22, 1872, where his parents resided until Will, as he was known by all his friends here, was five years old. Then he removed to Marcus, Iowa, where he spent eight years of his boyhood days, leaving for Paullina in 1885.

During the first four years of his residence in Paullina, his time was spent in our public school. Will was a member of the first graduating class of our High School and then attended the University of Minnesota.

Shortly after his return from the University, he was married to Mavis Pratt, March 1, 1894, and she passed on two years later, Mary 24, 1896. On June 25, 1909, he was married to Bonnie Cove of Grand Ridge, Illinois, who was his constant companion for the remainder of his life.

His business life was with his father and C.O. Cannon; later taking his father's interest in the elevator and continuing as partner with Mr. Cannon. In addition to his duties as President of the Bank of Paullina, he found time to give to social, political, and business cares of others. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention at Chicago at which Mr. Taft was nominated as President. As trustee of Morningside college, a part of his time was freely donated.

Saturday, June 15, 1918, funeral services were held at his home, conducted by Mrs. Osborne of the First Church of Christian Scientists of Sioux City, and at Prairie View cemetery by the Masonic Knight Templar Order.
