Addie A. (Putnam) McDonald (1877-1948)

Addie A Putnam was born on April 18, 1877, near Zearing, Ia., to Dennison C. and Josephine Walker Putnam. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers who died in infancy, a brother, Frank L. Putnam, a sister, Martha A. Harness, and her twin brother, Edson A. Putnam. One brother, L. W. Putnam, of Hartley, survives.

In 1883 the family moved to a farm in Omega Township, O'Brien County. On August 4, 1900 she was married to Clarence McDonald, at Sanborn. One son, Donald, was born to this union.

The family has resided on a farm in Center Township and in Hartley. From childhood she has been a member of the Church of God, which was located on a corner of her parent's farm near Moneta. Addie was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for more than forty years and for many years past has been a member of the Past Noble Grand Circle. -She was a loyal member of the W.C.T.U. She actively participated in the Women's activities of the Hartley Methodist Church.

The deceased was a generous and loving mother and grandmother and her passing will leave an emptiness that can never be filled. Her friends in the neighborhood and community will also cherish her memory.

She leaves to mourn her widower, Clarence, her son, Donald, and his wife, Helen, of Hartley, her granddaughter, Mrs. Lawrence Yates, and Mr. Yates of Sanborn and two great grand­children, Marsha and Dennie Yates, her brother, L. W. Putnam, and many nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted at First Methodist Church on Monday morning, Nov. 23 by Rev. S. A Kruschwitz and organ music was provided by Mm. Harrison Pike. Bearers were Arthur Linder, W. J. Linder, Lyle Shinkle, Lionel Jochums, Ed Swanson and L A Swanson. Flowers were arranged by Mrs. Rudolph Meehlhause and Mrs. Ray Retake. Interment was made at the family lot in Pleasant View cemetery.
