Edson Adelbert Putnam, the fifth of the nine children of D. C. and Josephine Putnam, was born at Eldora, Hardin County, Iowa, April 18th, 1877. [He was a twin to Addie Putnam McDonald] After all that medical skill could do had been done for him during a lingering illness of several years, the last three of which he had been compelled to go on crutches and for some weeks had been confined to bed, he passed away December 4th, 1920 at the age of fifty-three years, seven months and sixteen days.[sic]

When he was four years of age his parents moved to O'Brien County, Iowa and settled in Omega township where he resided until they moved to Hartley twenty-one years ago. December 11th, 1901 he was united in marriage with Miss Grace Webster. Five children were born to them.

With the exception of one year spent at Moneta the family has lived in Hartley where he worked as a carpenter until so badly broken in health that further labor was impossible.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Putnam; three children, Darwin, Pauline, and Robert; his mother, Mrs. Josephine Putnam; one brother, Lew Putnam; and two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Harness of Primghar, Iowa, and Mrs. Clarence McDonald of Hartley, Iowa.

Funeral services in charge of the Rev. A. J. Barkley assisted by a male quartette composed of Elmer and John Carr, Wilbur Johnson and B. T. Sherbon accompanied by Miss Hass were held in the Methodist church at 2 p. m. on Monday, Dec. 6th. Interment was made in the Hartley cemetery.
