Services for Robert B. Putnam, 67, a former Hartley resident for 47 years were held Monday, September 24 at 2:00 P.M. at The Little Chapel of the Roses in San Diego, California. Rev. H. W. Mitschke officiated and interment was at Glen Abbey Mausoleum of Chula Vista, California.
Mr. Putnam, died September 19, 1979 at Palomar Hospital in Escondido, California. Bearers were Jerry Putnam, Wilmar Weber, Jeffrey Weber, Donald McCreight, Michael Williams, Sr. and Michael Williams, Jr. Mrs. Violet Hamilton was organist.
Robert Bruce Putnam was born June 10, 1912 at Hartley, Iowa, the son of Edson Adelbert and Grace Mae Webster Putnam. Mr. Putnam was a graduate of Hartley High School in the year 1930 and learned the meat cutting trade in 1934, making it his life's work.
He married Leonna Viola Jenison of Sanborn, Iowa on June 10, 1935. Mr. Putnam owned his own meat market for a time and also worked for others in Hartley, Milford and Cherokee, Iowa. Mr. Putnam was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hartley.
In the year 1969 he moved his family to San Diego, California. The last fifteen years of his life he worked in Borrego Springs, California where he became ill suddenly on September 15. Mr. Putnam has spent a total of 45 years as a meat cutter.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jolene Williams of Escondido, California; Two grandchildren Michael and Robert Williams; and one sister, Mrs. Pauline McDonald of Hartley. He was proceeded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Paul, David and Darwin Putnam. Greenwood Funeral Home of San Diego, California was in charge of the arrangements.
