Henry Christopher Knicker was born March 21, 1889 in Hanover, Germany. He was baptized on March 24, 1889. He came to America with his mother in 1893, where they first resided in Chicago, Illinois.

He came to O'Brien County the following year with his mother and step-father, Chris Ebert. They farmed in the Germantown vicinity until 1929, and have since lived in the Hartley community. He attended the country school at Germantown. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1903. At the time of his death he was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Hartley, and an active member of the L. L. L. (Lutheran Laymen's League). He had served as branch secretary for the Aid Association for Lutherans.

On Nov. 23, 1913 he was united in marriage to Emma Broocks, at her parents' home in Germantown. To them were born five children: Lucille, Viola, Bessie, Alvin and LuVerne.

The family lived near Germantown on a farm, until coming to Hartley. He farmed for a time near here, and operated a hatchery for several years. He ran a dray line and worked at the creamery as well. For the past 18 years he has resided in the town of Hartley, but had been retired for several years.

He passed into eternal life at his home on Nov. 7, 1962, at the age of 73 years, 7 months, and 16 days.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lucille, at the age of 13 years, and a son, Alvin, at the age of 25.

Left, to cherish his memory are his wife, Emma; his daughters, Viola (Mrs. Ray Rumper) and Bessie {Mrs. Marvin Schaa), both of Fremont, California, and LuVerne (Mrs. Joseph Barnd) of Aurora, Ill.; eight grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; eight half-sisters and half-brothers, Herman Ebert and Walter Ebert, both of Primghar, Emil Ebert of Marcus, Ella (Mrs. Alvin Luhrs) of Fairmont, Minn., Hilda (Mrs. Ray Kramer) of Berwyne, Ill., Mary (Mrs. John Miller) of Cleghorn, Iowa, Bernadine Crist of Sacramento, California, Irene (Mrs. Herman La Maack) of Hayfield, Minn.; three step-sisters, Mrs. Anna Holtgrew of Remsen, Mrs. Sophia Mesner of Paullina, and Mrs. Hulda Piepgras of Slayton, Minn.; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a great many friends.

Services were held Saturday, Nov. 10, at 2:00 p.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran church in Hartley with Rev. A. O. Bleeke officiating. Pallbearers were Carl Riessen, Herman Miller, Frank Alberts, Al Hansen, Edward H. Peters and John Groen. Interment was made at Pleasant View cemetery, Hartley, Iowa.
